Thursday Evening Chess Club Resumes October 1

Please join us for Thursday evening chess club starting on Oct. 1. Chess club will run each Thursday from 5:30 pm to 6:45 pm and will include pizza generously provided by Powder River Pizza. We’ll offer a short lesson on the first Thursday of each month and will have puzzles and open play each Thursday. All ages are welcome.

Because the library is finishing some renovations, please note the following:

From Thursday, Oct. 1 to Thursday, Nov. 12, Chess Club will be held at the Sheridan Junior High at 500 Lewis Street.

Starting Thursday, Nov. 19, we will move back to the Inner Circle at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library at 334 W Alger Street.

Event Overview

The Wyoming Open and State Championship Tournament will be held October 10-11 in Casper, Wyoming at the same location and with the same format of last year's tournament. We will have three divisions.

The Championship Division will be a 5-game round robin open to the top five highest rated players from Wyoming who register by the end of the day on Sunday, October 4.  Note: players must commit to playing all five rounds. Withdrawing from the Championship Division will make the withdrawing player ineligible to compete in the 2027 Championship Division.

Open Division and the Under 1000 Division will be run as 5-Round Swiss-style tournaments. The Wyoming player with the highest number of points in the Open Division earns a slot in the 2027 Championship Division.

You must be a US Chess member to play. Entry fee: $30.00 by October 4, 2026. $40.00 after October 4. Players <1000 must pay a $10 play-up fee to compete in the Open Division. Site: St. Anthony Tri-Parish School, 1145 W. 20th Street, Casper, WY. Prizes by entries. Time Control: G/90 d5. Sponsored by the Wyoming Chess Association.
